Shanghai,  - The celebration of the New Year in Shanghai Region (riverside) turns into chaos before midnight Wednesday (31/12), when a stampede killed 35 people and wounded 42 others in Shanghai, China East.

The incident occurred at the roundabout Chenyi in Shanghai Bund area is approximately at 23:35 local time.
A witness said some coupons that look like "dollars" thrown from a third floor window of the building in the Bund and the people who stood on the banks of the river began to scramble to obtain the coupon, Xinhua said -that monitored Antara on Thursday morning.

The city has formed a task force to carry out the rescue operation and handling as a result of the incident.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

The government said in its micro blog that an investigation has begun, and the city officials rushed to the scene and to the hospital to visit the wounded, said Reuters. An emergency meeting will be held in order to ensure the security measures carried out throughout the city.

The picture on Weibo, China's version of Twitter, showed a very dense crowd along the Bund, which is surrounded by buildings on the banks of the Huangpu River.

In some images, rescue workers were seen trying to save the lives of victims lying on the sidewalk while some ambulance waiting near them.

The Government has shown concern about crowd control in a few days before New Year's Eve. They recently canceled the annual performance 3D laser in the Bund, which in 2013 attract as many as 300,000 people.
