Urged Pacific Islands Forum to Discuss Issues of human rights in Papua

Mdia Papua- Jayapura. Australia West Papua Association (AWPA) called on the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum to address what is referred to as the worsening human rights situation in Papua province.


The call is presented to the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum member countries will attend the Pacific Islands Forum Summit to 46 in Papua New Guinea in September of this year.

AWPA said Indonesian security forces used excessive force and often deadly against peaceful protesters in West Papua on many occasions in 2014 that resulted in at least four deaths.
"We urge the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum to discuss the human rights situation in West Papua and Indonesia for approval accept fact-finding mission to West Papua," said Joe Collins, chairman of the Australia West Papua Association, Tuesday (28/07/2015)

AWPA also called for the release of all political prisoners and granting West Papua observer position to the representatives of the Melanesian people of West Papua. (Media Papua/DP)
